If you are aged 18-30 and currently unemployed and registered with Job Centre Plus you are eligible for this opportunity.
HMRC is the UK’s tax, payments and customs authority. It plays a crucial role in keeping the country running, by collecting money for public services. HMRC also supports individuals, families and business through the likes of tax credits, statutory maternity / paternity pay, sick pay and also credit incentives.
Your placement in HMRC will see you at the heart of Civil Service, during your time with us, we will give you a flavour of what it’s like to work in a dynamic environment across a range of our departments.
Your time with us is really important, so that everyone gets the most out of it. We will ask you to undertake tasks, such as attending meetings, note taking, preparing short reports and maintaining / analysing visual data. These are all skills that will equip you for life after the placement and that will also help support us in providing the best service we can to the public. Skills such as CV writing are also really important in getting you into work; we want to help with this as well as helping you understand the kinds of qualities that we look for in people when we are recruiting.

What does a typical placement look like?
Candidates will get first hand experience of working in an inclusive office environment.
Visiting a number of different departments over the 4 weeks candidates will learn administration skills, support managers and view front line staff in action.
Support will be given with CV writing and mock interviews from senior leaders.
Opportunities also include involvement in project work, experience with Microsoft office, internet based training and research work.
What you should wear:
- Comfortable, smart casual clothing is best. For example, trousers and a top, chinos and a shirt, a dress, or a skirt and top. Don’t worry if you have a limited wardrobe – we don’t judge.
Skills you’ll come away with:
- Organisational, communication and Digital skills.
- Interview techniques and making a good impact at interview
- CV skills.
