DWP Work Placement- 6 Weeks- London South SW1H 9NA- 04/02/2019

If you are aged 18-30 and currently unemployed and registered with Job Centre Plus you are eligible for this opportunity.

The Department for Work and Pensions is the largest government department in the United Kingdom, and is responsible for welfare and pension policy.

DWP’s work experience programme is intended to support young people aged 18-30 years old, who are facing difficulty getting into work. The programme is designed to help you develop your confidence and learn new and valuable skills, and give you real, on-the-job experience of working in the Civil Service.

What does a typical placement look like?

We will help you gain greater self-confidence, and improve your organisational, communications and team working/collaboration skills – key skills that employers are looking for. We will also help you with your interview skills and CV writing. The work experience includes a personal learning journey that develops you as a leader and helps you with your wellbeing and resilience.

The purpose of this placement is to give you experience of working in an office environment. We’ll support you to gain greater confidence, improve your organisation, communication, and presentation skills, and help you with interview/CV skills. As part of this posting, you will also develop your social media skills and learn how to present information to different audiences.

The team you’ll be joining works on a number of issues, from improving our communication with employers to encouraging employers to recruit people facing barriers getting into work.

A typical day will involve preparing for and attending meetings, creating social media content, project evaluation, and gaining experience across different teams.

We will tailor the placement to your ability, experience, and requirements and will discuss with you what you want to get out of your time with us before you start.

What you should wear:

Comfortable, smart casual clothing is best. For example, trousers and a top, chinos and a shirt, a dress, or a skirt and top. Don’t worry if you have a limited wardrobe – we don’t judge.

Skills you’ll come away with:

Personal confidence and self-awareness

Interview preparation, CV writing skills and preparation for work

Teamwork and communication

“Overall I would definitely say that my MTW placement changed my life as it gave me the confidence to feel comfortable in a work place and help me get back into working life.
