If you are aged 18-30 and currently unemployed and registered with Job Centre Plus you are eligible for this opportunity.
The Department for Work and Pensions is the largest government department in the United Kingdom, and is responsible for welfare and pension policy.
DWP’s work experience programme is intended to support young people aged 18-30 years old, who are facing difficulty getting into work. The programme is designed to help you develop your confidence and learn new and valuable skills, and give you real, on-the-job experience of working in the Civil Service.
What does a typical placement look like?
We will help you gain greater self-confidence, and improve your organisational, communications and team working/collaboration skills – key skills that employers are looking for. We will also help you with your interview skills and CV writing. The work experience includes a personal learning journey that develops you as a leader and helps you with your wellbeing and resilience.
An excellent development opportunity to provide support to the Grade 6/Grade 7 as Business Support for the Operational Excellence Directorates’ Retirement Provision Portfolio.
Log and track DWP Service change impacts.
Provide Retirement Provision Service and Portfolio Boards with quality documentation to be presented by the Service Design and Management Grade 7.
Maintain Retirement Provision Portfolio Annual Leave Chart.
Request /control monthly change updates.
Maintain team workforce plans, headcount check, team organisation charts.
Maintain Business Support Team inbox.
Maintain Service Design and Management induction toolkit.
Support Retirement Provision Portfolio communications strategy.
What you should wear:
Comfortable, smart casual clothing is best. For example, trousers and a top, chinos and a shirt, a dress, or a skirt and top. Don’t worry if you have a limited wardrobe – we don’t judge.

What have previous participants of this programme said about their placement?
In the past we have had a MTW colleague be successful in a job interview. Throughout the 4 weeks we gave mock interviews giving the colleague pointers in where to improve. This MTW colleague had one interview whilst with us, and one a few weeks later to which they were successful. The MTW colleague thanked us as he felt that with our coaching and the opportunity the Department had given him led to a successful job role.
